This was a great read even for an accomplished author. She developed her many characters fully and they were consistent throughout the novel. I found myself reading more slowly to savor the environment the author created. I've bought her second book and am looking forward to it as well.
This is a story that blends a lot of history with lots of sleuthing to solve a murder mystery. The mystery is made much more compelling by the foundation of research that supports it. My wife and I were both impressed by how much we learned about not only the early days of the Mormon movement, but also the everyday life of people on the frontier. The descriptions and imagery are excellent, the mystery is captivating, and the story pulls you into a fascinating experience. Excellent work for a first novel...we're looking forward to her next one!
